I would love to rent an RV (can't afford to purchase one) and travel anywhere in it. The thought of not having to worry about hotel accomodations and where to stop to go to the bathroom thrills me to no end. Though, as some mentioned, gas prices keeps me from actually renting one. Hopefully, I will be able to afford it one day soon.
That's probably the big detriment these days to traveling in an RV -- the gas. I'm not sure how the tradeoff would be between that and saving on nights in a motel. Get out the calculator!
I also would like to have a road trip on the RV.
I tried a one week road trip on my bicycle. I stop at inns or lodges for the night. But at the end of the trip, my legs are really aching. I couldn't sleep because of the pain.
I know what you mean about the stress you put on your legs. You should have trained first in order for your legs to be used to long trips.
About the mode of transportation, we used to have a one-month long road trip with the RV in the summer. But when the prices of oil went up, the RV became just a garage thing. My father is thinking about selling it.
Growing up, we had a motorhome that we used on cross country trips to haul horses. That was by far the most convenient way to road travel, especially for me. As a child, I was never bored in the RV because it was like a home on wheels, lol.
As for the motorcylce idea, I don't think I would attempt it. I doubt my butt and my back could survive more than a couple hours :)
