My husband and myself are both part German (with the crazy last names to prove it, now mine is hyphenated, lovely!). One day we plan to visit Germany, and while I know not all places are happy for tourist I am thankful I have my background in the travel world. I just need to update it. Any suggestions?
I've never been to Germany, but as far as traveling goes, I've heard that the best way to travel in Europe is to get a Eurorail pass. This offers the best rate for transportation, for a few weeks. It's absolutely worth the cost. I used it for 3-4 weeks to travel all around Europe, including Germany, when I was in college.
Eurorail is amazing and while I am not exactly fond of rails I would try this out. I know how amazing the service is and how quickly you can zip through places. Back when I worked in travel we sold a Contiki tour package that was "to die for", amazing like 5 countries in one, I still want to go on that one day.
There are many different Euro rail passes at different prices and you can save a lot if you go to Germany as rail travel there is expensive, unlike the Netherlands where it is very cheap.
My husband's family is from Germany and he's been lucky enough to travel there twice for work. I have not been and he keeps promising to take me. I'd jump at the chance to move over there even though I've never even visited!
My mother in law had at least six work trips there, I was very jealous lucky her, right? One day we hope to go but we are also planning a house move in the next few years, so our trip will not be anytime soon. I am still debating all we want to see and if we can cram it into one trip!
Berlin is a must for the culture, shopping and buldings but then Bavaria is also beautiful if you like mountains and cute chocolate box chalets, not to mention the Black Forest if you like forests!
Berlin is on the to do list but so it Hamburg so just trying to find something that suits us all is a hard task. I have a friend that studied in Berlin and she loved it. I just want to soak up a ton of culture.
